GOAT : Bolt

Image
Very randomly, I was thinking about what to write about and somehow I just happened to write about Bolt. I was watching the olympics 100m race that was won by Usain Bolt, where he had set the world record of 9.58s. I was astonished by his speed and those long strides he was taking. The second record is also held by him which is 9.63s. The second highest by someone else is Tyson Gay at the moment which is 9.69s. Now that's a very interesting thing. It was May 3, 2008 when the world record was set and till now which is May 24, 2024 no one's able to beat that. Imagine how difficult it would have been, we have had 2012, 2016, 2020 olympics done already but no one's got to the world record yet. This is the reason, I was fascinated to understand, what makes Bolt so special? So I decided to grab a few of his quotes and tune into his thinking.   So this was the first thing that I found, "I trained for 4 years to run 9 seconds, some people don't see results in 2 months and ...

Self Confidence: The magic within you

Image
We all have the fear of unknown, we all want to achieve great things in life, but we still do have the fear of the unknown. Now let's say you are into public speaking but you have never ever spoken in front of 1000s of people watching you. Would you say yes to an opportunity that comes by or would you say no because you have never spoken in front of 1000s of people. It all depends on how much you believe in yourself, if you believe that you will be able to speak, you will and likewise if you believe you won't be able to speak,  and so that will happen. So when you don't have anything in life materially, all you need is self confidence and an unquestionable belief within yourself even when times are tough. So there's a strong correlation in your belief within yourself and your ability to grab opportunities.  Now, we understand the self confidence, self belief thing, but the problem is how do we have belief in ourselves when things are not going our way? You know there wo...

Gratitude: The simple power

Image
There's a famous saying about focus, "Whatever you focus in life, grows". If you focus on shit, shit grows, and if you focus on good things, good things grows. So the topic for today is going to be gratitude. One of the most important aspects of life is not to focus on what you don't have but to focus on what you have, so what you have grows. Obviously, when we talk about things like gratitude, we first have to delve into the most fundamental aspects, what exactly does gratitude really mean? On a higher level we all know it correlates to the appreciation of the things that we have in life. But how do scientists define it?  According to Dr. Colvin's blog  , gratitude has 3 parts to it:  1. Being thankful for the good things in your life.  2. Being thankful for the people that made your life better.  3. Adopting new behaviours like having more sympathy, greater appreciation of life and being less judgemental, as a result of interacting with the people that y...

True Freedom

Image
I woke up at 8:00 am approx to watch today's RCB vs CSK match. As I was supporting CSK, I really wanted CSK to win this one for Mahi. But apparently it wasn't our day today and we lost the match and were not able to qualify for the playoffs. Suddenly, a random stream of thought came into my mind, like you know Tirth, you are supporting CSK because of Dhoni but someone's supporting RCB for Virat or maybe they just like the team. So instead of being unhappy because your team lost, be happy for the fact that there are many other people happy today who wanted Virat to win and so be it. It's a game, you win some and you lose some. That's the nature of cricket. Moreover, I started dwelling on what makes Virat and Dhoni so so loved around the entire country. Do they share anything in common ? Maybe yes but most likely they are very different personalities. Dhoni is the calm and composed guy, Virat is the loud and the passionate guy, both of them have achieved so much for t...

Humility : The forgotten virtue

Image
So what's humility in the first place? What does it really mean? This is something I got from a particular website :  https://www.berkeleywellbeing.com/humility.html  . Popularly it's believed that people with humility is of low self esteem. One thing is ego which is you trying to satisfy yourself through external validation whether that's social media or anything other than that. It's just about satisfying getting validation, whereas, quoting the Berkley blog " It actually means we have a sense of connectedness with the whole world and other people, enabling us to transcend self-preoccupation and helping us not take everything too seriously " . Wow this is actually a great definition. It means a sense of connectedness with the whole world, that enables us to transcend self-preoccupation and thus helping us not to take everything too seriously, life or death.  Now the blog goes on to talk about what intellectual humility is: Knowing that your knowledge is goin...

Abundance Vs Scarcity

Image
I wonder how the world means different things to different individuals. Some people like Ice cream, some people don't like ice cream, some people like cricket, some people like football, some of them like a noisy life, some like the calmness of life, but that's what makes us all happy. We all require and need different things in life and that's what causes abundance in the world. Imagine if everyone liked the same girl or the same guy in life, wouldn't there be an issue on whom to marry then? Imagine if everyone in the world liked Indian food then there would be scarcity of Indian food, but since everyone likes different things, that's what makes individuals, different and abundant. Now I wanted to talk about abundance and scarcity mindset. An abundance mindset comes from the idea that nothing ends in the universe, absolutely nothing. On the other hand, scarcity mindset means that there's a limit to everything whether that's money, luxury or people. An abun...

Courage

Image
Probably one of the most important things in life I believe is learning to be courageous. So basically what really is courage, is it doing what you want when you want? Well that's freedom. Maybe courage is eliminating fear. But then what is fear, fear is an emotion designed to protect human beings from danger. Basically, if a tiger comes in front of you, it's very natural to feel the emotion of fear. The idea of losing a job and not having any income is a fear as it might also hinder with our way of being. Taking too much risk in business and losing out a lot of money is also fear as it's our desire to protect our money. In cricket, hitting a six comes with the risk of getting out and losing your wicket, so you want to protect your wicket and that's why you have the fear. So is fear really important ? Sure it is, it's designed to help human beings live a life that's lasting. Is there a thing where you become totally fearless? I believe it's stupid to become...
