I was wondering what can I write today. I don't have much of new topics to write about but how about courage again. How about the Maratha empire and the learnings of Maratha empire. I don't have enough knowledge from Maratha Empire so will solely rely on quotes and other blogs. But I hope I bring something of value towards the end. So yesterday the story was more about Sambhaji Maharaj. The person who succeeded Shivaji in the Maratha empire. The movie had a huge showdown at the end where they showed how cruel Mughals were and how Mughals removed the tongue, the eyes and tortured Sambhaji Maharaj to death. The movie also showed how courageous Sambhaji Maharaj was and how he never bowed down to the Mughals. The way he showed courage till the end was admirable. The movie also captured glimpses of how Marathas believed in Godess Bhavani and Jagadambha. The interesting thing was that Aurangzeb the ruler of Mughals believed a lot in Islam. So if you look at the history of the world, religion, and language has created all the wars and the intention to expand the kingdom was never over. But the idea today in this blog is going to entail what Maratha empire was all about.

I believe this is a quote from Shivaji Maharaj. The whole world respects those who bend before Dharma, Truth, Excellence and God. How wonderful of a thought is this. He taught Marathas to always hold their held high. The only places where you bow down is before Dharma, Truth, Excellence and God. If you think about this, Dharma and God are having a strong correlation. You bow down before God and truly believe that there's a higher power in the world. The next is truth and excellence, you bow down to truth and excellence. Which in my understanding means that you bow down before what's true and people who possess excellent skills. That's how I understand, but, maybe there's more to this. I'll think about it.
But more or less, the idea is to have your head held high always unless it's before God.
Haha, so wonderful. When you are enthusiastic, the mountain also looks like a clay pile. This is a beautiful thought and encourages people to be enthusiastic. Now what does enthusiasm mean. You should be excited to live life. You should have an emotion of let's go. I have always believed that energy is something that's not seen but it's there. You feel the energy of the person next to you. I love the transactions that happen whenever you are with someone of high energy. You feel the high energy and that's what matters. Good energy is contagious, so when you are having good energy and enthusiasm towards a goal, even a mountain looks like a clay pile. This is what he meant. I know that Marathas also had Gurilla warfare where they were experts at. Even with less number of soldiers they would be able to fight the Mughals and that's what was great about Shivaji Maharaj and people there by. There were various songs that were popular within the Marathas as well.

Without going into the translation, it means "The person who keeps doing his work with full faith even during difficult times, time also changes for that person." That's the essence of Shivaji Maharaj. He taught folks that one should work even during difficult times. The times when things are not going well. When you work hard during the time when things are not going well with full faith, that's where your time will change as well. He taught people that life will have its ups and downs but keep working always all the time.

One of my favourite quotes of Shivaji Maharaj. Do not think your enemy is weak, but not also overestimate their strength. It's very natural sometimes to think that your enemy is more stronger than the enemy really is. For example, everyone thought that Mughals were too strong for the Maratha empire. Yes they were strong, but that never meant that Shivaji Maharaj underestimated himself and the Maratha empire. He along with his Gurilla tactics was much better than most of the Mughals. Mughals were strong in number but in tactics Marathas were. We all know Mughals did defeat the Marathas a couple of times but eventually the reason Mughal empire broke was also because of the Marathas. There was a rise of British power as well during the time, but Shivaji was one of the warriors who fought against the invaders and didn't let them enter the south of India. Auragzeb's last 27 years was only fighting the marathas. Imagine how difficult was it for the Mughals to enter the Maratha empire. Even if Mughals were more in number Shivaji maharaj never over estimated their strength. Underestimating your enemy will lead to complacency and overestimating their strength will lead to fear. Shivaji Maharaj understood this balance well and that's what he was one of the most courageous leaders that we have seen.
Although all of these of thoughts are of the olden times. However, they are still very relevant. Even today bowing down before God is valid and his thought is that we should only bow down to excellence, God and Truth. Being enthusiastic about your projects is also valid. The way we show enthusiasm is through our energy. Working even during difficult times means that the times will change, that's valid today also. The way we look at the world should be of balance. Not thinking that others are weak, or thinking that they are too strong. You might have a rival in your team, but don't overestimate his/her strength. In fact tell yourself that you are overestimating his/her strength. The most important part, pray everyday and bow down to God. See what faith can do for Marathas and for Mughals equally. Having faith in some higher power is very important.
