The Honest Path: Finding Freedom and Authenticity in a Deceptive World

Image
Tum ek honest aur sacche aadmi ho Vicky, aur yahi tumhari taaqat hai, said Shraddha Kapoor to Rajkumar Rao in the movie Stree2. It was at this point, that I recognised that honesty is a strength that's not recognised enough but it really is a strength. I know people teach quite a lot of things about honesty, for an example, Robert Greene says that it's not good to be honest, but Robert Greene for some reason has never worked for me. I tried reading him, but every time I would find myself disagreeing to most of the things he preaches. Anyways, never mind let's focus on honesty right now. As Shraddha Kapoor said that dialogue, the dialogue came home with me and rang my mind and ears every single time I was interacting with someone. Whether it was my manager at the office or whether it was a friend of mine on a video call, all I remembered during the time was that Tum ek honest aur sacche insaan ho aur vahi tumhari taaqat hai.  Google defines honest as following:  free of...

The Ripple Effect of Compassion: How Kindness Changes the World

Image
Yesterday, I was at the Baps temple and suddenly one of the stories about compassion really caught my eye. I know my Mom talks about daya, which in Gujarati means compassion. So I was really fascinated by the point of compassion and really wanted to understand what compassion really means. According to dictionary.com, compassion is defined as follows, " a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. " It says a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. In simple terms it means feeling the pain and misfortune of others and having a feeling and a desire to help them. Now the question is, how deep can compassion really go? Is it that compassion should be for only humans? Or can it be for animals, insects or even plants? In my opinion it can be for any living being on earth. You can feel the pa...

From Doubt to Confidence: A Guide to Silencing Your Inner Critic

Image
Today, I had a one on one with my manager and he was like how's everything going. I told him that the new task I have is a bit challenging, because I had an open ended task that I had gotten recently. I told him that I was not sure if it will work out fine as its the first time I was doing that, but he told me that I have full faith that I will be able to do it. That's when I realised that maybe I am simply doubting myself for no reason. Although, I understand it's natural at times and no one can have all 5 days of the week perfectly, it's better to recognise and break the bad pattern as soon as we catch it. So let's talk about what is self doubt, how it creeps in, why it's not good to have self doubt and then what can we do to mitigate self doubt.  Self doubt is simply the state of mind where you do not believe in yourself and your own abilities. It might be a transient state or it might be a state where a person goes in very often. The way google defines it is...

Why Interest Matters: A Path to Growth, Connection, and Resilience

Image
I am not sure what I am going to write but yesterday was one of the days where I felt a lack of energy especially in the evening, it was Friday and I was just about to tell my friends that I would not be able to make it to the Bollywood night. Apparently, I am the one who said in first, so I felt a bit strange to say no that time. However, once I went, the energy comes back, the sleep went away and somehow it felt refreshed also. Maybe it's about the interest that I had, I loved spending time with those people, everyone is so cool and wonderful, there are a little quirks and weirdness in everyone but that's what makes all of them complete. So anyways, I felt it is that time where I want to talk about, if you are interested and deeply interested in something the energy comes. You wouldn't need it but it's all there. I want to talk about why it's more important to be someone who's interested, not someone who's interesting. Probably interested in anything and ...

Stay on the crease

I remember it was a Wednesday and I was playing cricket as usual. After getting out on 2 innings very early, once I scored 3 runs and in the very next innings I scored 2 runs at a 50 strike rate. But it was not about scoring less runs in less balls, but it was more about why didn't I bat a bit longer. Isn't my wicket important, in both these innings the mistake I made was choosing the wrong ball to hit the boundary or a six. Sometimes, you just need to wait for the right ball and not go after every ball is one of the basic rules of cricket, but because of this t20 mindset, I thought it's okay to go after every ball. However, we all need to respect the game, be patient, watch the ball and then strike the ball trusting your basic instincts. Yes there would be days that wouldn't work, but for the most part it will workout. So what are we going to talk about today, today I am going to talk about patience and why it's a crucial part of our lives, whether that's cric...

Facing Embarrassment: The Key to Personal Freedom and Growth

Image
Probably, this is the fear we never talk about. We talk about all kinds of fears, we talk about fear of heights, fear of darkness, everything, but the one that's really less talked about is the fear of embarrassment, whether we believe it or not that's probably the most important fear that we need to talk about. So my first question is what is the root cause of fear of embarrassment, okay let's say you went to a dance competition, maybe you fell down and then you felt embarrassed about falling down. So if we deeply examine this, why did you get embarrassed because you fell down? Because you worried about not looking that great while dancing. Why did you worry about not looking great while dancing? Because it came down upon your ego on how good a dancer you are. Why did it come down to your ego ? It's the feeling that stem from getting validation from others, and proving to the world how good a dancer you are. Why do you want to prove something to the world? Because you...

Mastering the Feedback Loop: A Path to Genuine Improvement

Image
Yesterday I was with a friend talking and somehow we drifted on the topic of feedbacks. Like self analysis, on what we did wrong, what we can do correctly next time onwards and how we can really improve. So that's how I thought about talking about feedback loops. We also spoke on how some feedback is not important and some of them is. For an example, a negative feedback coming with the intention of bringing you down is not important, but a negative feedback coming from a real genuine intention is important. That's the thing, feedbacks can be of various types and we need to understand each of them to realise which ones are good and which ones are bad. So anyways I'll talk about what feedbacks are, why are they important and how to create accurate feedback processes.  So what really is a feedback? Google defines feedback as following: " information about reactions to a product, a person's performance of a task, etc. which is used as a basis for improvement. " ...

Embracing Imperfection: The Art of Not Taking Ourselves Too Seriously

Image
I was thinking about certain things. The last couple of days, I haven't rested properly, but I can feel that in my body and my speech as well. So today when I was speaking in a standup, I could literally feel that my energy was not upto the mark. Now then I am wondering, why was that the case? The reason was simple, I was a bit too tired, figured that maybe I am taking myself too seriously. I mean it was just a standup and it was just one day that my energy was not there. So what? Isn't that normal? Wouldn't everyone have such days? Why am I taking myself so seriously. So that's when I decided to write about not taking ourselves too seriously. Sometimes in the hustle of life, we forget that we are humans, we make mistakes, we have our own limitations and shortcomings and we also take ourselves way too seriously on certain occasions. But what's the point of taking ourselves that seriously, I mean in the larger context of the world we are just minuscules. Believe it o...
