I was thinking about certain things. The last couple of days, I haven't rested properly, but I can feel that in my body and my speech as well. So today when I was speaking in a standup, I could literally feel that my energy was not upto the mark. Now then I am wondering, why was that the case? The reason was simple, I was a bit too tired, figured that maybe I am taking myself too seriously. I mean it was just a standup and it was just one day that my energy was not there. So what? Isn't that normal? Wouldn't everyone have such days? Why am I taking myself so seriously. So that's when I decided to write about not taking ourselves too seriously. Sometimes in the hustle of life, we forget that we are humans, we make mistakes, we have our own limitations and shortcomings and we also take ourselves way too seriously on certain occasions. But what's the point of taking ourselves that seriously, I mean in the larger context of the world we are just minuscules. Believe it or not, we are not that important yet we are important. There's an antithesis in the previous statement but we are not important in the larger context of the world, even if you or me die tomorrow, the world is still going to function. It's just the small context that will be affected, that's the small entropy we are all a part of. That difficult project that's way too important at your work for you today, think about it, if you die tomorrow, they will just hire someone else in your place to do the work for you. The only people who genuinely will be affected by your loss are your family. Maybe a couple of close friends where you are providing so much value.

This is true, don't take yourself too seriously Be the person who brings joy, humility and fun, even as you strive to reach difficult goals and make your difference. As I said, in the pursuit of our desires and wants and needs, we start taking ourselves too seriously. Honestly, you are not that important and nor am I. We are still important but as I said in the larger context we really are not. So have fun, bring joy and humility. Laugh at yourself, accept yourself the way you are, if you have an insecurity make a joke about yourself about your own insecurity. For an example, if you are skinny, it's okay to joke on yourself on being skinny. Yes you need to work hard to get better, but as long as that has not happened, it's okay to joke on yourself. When you joke on yourself, people know that they cannot manipulate you in feeling any guilt, or consciousness, your emotions remain under your control and more importantly you can be a fun person to be around as well.

He's my favourite actor for a very good reason. I mean, we sometimes take ourselves so seriously that we think it's just we who are right. However, not taking yourself seriously also means recognising that there's a larger world out there, and we need to respect other people's ideas also.
We all go through instances where someone said something to you and you take that so seriously that you start to burn your ownself down. Let's say someone called you fat, and you are actually fat, now your ego will try to convince you that what the other person called is wrong. It's body shaming. However, it's really not important what that person said. He's not that important and so are you. Your ego is trying to convince you that it's wrong but look at it from the 3rd person perspective, is it really wrong to them? I mean stop caring so much about the things that you really don't even need to care and start caring about the real things of life.

Now if I ask you what are your insecurities and can you really laugh at yourself about it? Can you be authentic about not being perfect. Can you say you look bad, maybe you look great overall, but everyone has certain aspects that they don't like about themselves, do you really really accept yourself the way you are and grow yourself from there? Maybe yes or maybe not whatever it is. I want you to learn to accept your flaws like your babies. They are not good or bad because they are still yours. That's what makes you human. If you want to find someone without flaws, find a robot and not a human.
Anyways, so how do we not take ourselves too seriously is the big question?
1. Practice gratitude: One of the most important things in life is to practice gratitude. While we focus on the lack, we get more of what we lack and when focus on what we have, we get more of what we have. So when you focus on the positive and what all wonderful things you have in your life, you wouldn't spend so much time on taking yourself too seriously, to who said what to you, to what other people say about you, honestly, it's not that important at all.
2. Avoid perfectionism: Whether it's code quality or whether that's anything else, we all want to look perfect, be perfect, not make any errors, and so on right. But remember, we only make errors when we focus on not to make any errors. So avoid being perfect in anything, and remember it's okay if you are not perfect. Real is better than perfect. Taking yourself too seriously means your ego assumes that you are perfect but in reality it's not.
3. Stop comparing: Personality begins where comparison ends. So life is not about comparing one individual to the other or comparing yourself to that xyz, if you have not lived the same lives, not had the same insecurities or not had the same experiences, how can you compare? It's just invalid, I saw a movie called Deadpool yesterday and at the end, it just said one thing, everybody matters.
4. Pursue Hobbies: Pursue whatever hobbies that you wish to pursue, whether that's dance, hiking, cricket, football or a sport, or even reading, it's important to pursue your hobbies, that will give you happiness and fun and that way you wouldn't have any time to take yourself too seriously.
So yeah at the end of the day, I would just say, neither success nor failure is permanent and perfectionism is just a myth. Comparison is a thief of joy and it's important to be yourself, in a world where everyone's taken. Stop taking yourself too seriously, make mistakes, fall, get back up, and live a full life. Hope you have a great week, day and a year.
