Green Therapy: How Nature Heals Our Minds and Bodies

Image
Recently, I went to the library and got a book called as nature fix. I feel like nature is something where I d not go very often because we live in a concrete jungle almost. Yes, there are parks but felt like I am personally not spending enough time in the parks. So I was wondering why am I not going in nature very often with the trees, the sun, the light, the flowers and the water bodies. Maybe it's because there's no planning of what I am going to do this weekend and that weekend. So okay, there needs to be planning but there was no intention of going in nature as well, because I did not know what are the mental and the physical health benefits of going in nature. So today, let's take a look at why going in nature is really important for our health.  A very random picture I found on the internet. But let's dive deep into the benefits of nature.  1. Anxiety, stress and depression: Thinking about it logically, I do know that caveman and our ancestors lived in forests w...

Above and Beyond: How Small Acts of Extra Effort Lead to Big Growth

Image
The little extra:  I was reading the book called, "The compound effect" and the author was talking about the extra effort you need to make to progress on something. For example, everyone works for themselves and completes their own work, but you will only accelerate your progress when you go ahead and help others succeed. In order to succeed yourself you have to make sure others succeed also with your work. This blog is going to talk about going the extra mile. What is it we mean by going the extra mile?  It simply means doing more than what is required. In real life, what it means is delivering more than expected at work, offering help even when it's not asked for, or just doing something with extra attention to detail or enthusiasm. We want to go above and beyond in each and every aspect of life in order to accelerate the growth that you want in life. I'll try to factor in real life examples where you can go above and beyond. If you simply brainstorm, we have 3-4 ma...

Psychological Flexibility: The Key to Growth and Adaptation

Image
What is psychological flexibility?  These days a lot of the world is talking about something psychological or mental flexibility. In my mind, flexibility only meant physical and psychological flexibility was an alien concept in my head. However, this article is going to take you through understanding the what of psychological flexibility, the why of psychological flexibility, and the how of it. So before we understand psychological flexibility, let's understand what we mean by flexibility. Flexibility in my understanding is the ability to bend or twist something or move something very easily. For an example, someone doing yoga and stretching both their legs can be called as flexibile physically. So stretching is a part of flexibility in body, then stretching in terms of mind is also a part of flexibility. Just like you stretch your body doing physical exercises, stretching your mind will be called as psychological flexibility. However, when I read the definitions of psychological s...

Beyond Excuses: Embracing Hard Work and Positive Mindsets

Today, I was wondering what can I write about, I was going through a time that was cold and boring.Because of the cold outside I didn't feel like going out and staying home is always boring. I was wondering what can I write about, in fact I still do not know what I will truly write about. But lately I have realised that I have forgotten the what, why and how part in my blogs and have simply written crap and non-sense. But it's okay sometimes writing something is better than writing nothing. So today's topic is hardwork and how it makes us happy when we work hard. So before we go into hardwork, what's life all about? It's simply the time period between birth and death. That's it. It's a time period. All of us have 24 hours in the day, we do something, we play cricket, football, talk to our friends, go for haircuts, work towards our goals, etc. so we are constantly doing something inorder to fill in the time. In order to fill in the time we are doing something...

Ignite Your Curiosity: A Path to Better Learning and Living

Image
Curiosity Like necessity is the mother of all inventions, curiosity is the mother of all learnings. In order to keep learning new things and to keep getting better, we need to have a curious mind. A mind that wonders why things are the way they are? Why is it that we eat food? What are the problems that are currently present in the world? Why does it snow in certain parts of the world and in certain seasons(during certain months) ? Why do we have rainfall? Sometimes we might find the answer and sometimes we might not. But the idea is to keep your mind active and curious. To me the way I look at curiosity is seeking new possibilities and understanding new things. In case you have a question about how does the building hold so much load, you are being curious. When Newton asked a question on why does the apple fall down from the tree, he was being curious. When Thomas Edison asked why can't we create a bulb from a halogen he was being curious. In fact, all the scientific discoveries ...

From Delay to Done: Mastering the Fight Against Procrastination"

Image
Procrastination: The Art of Delaying the Inevitable Procrastination is a concept we’re all too familiar with. Ironically, I’ve procrastinated writing this very blog! Yet, here I am, determined to push through and create something meaningful. We’ve all heard the saying:  Procrastination is the thief of time.  But what does procrastination truly mean in its essence? Wikipedia defines procrastination as:  "The act of unnecessarily delaying or postponing something despite knowing that there could be negative consequences for doing so."  It’s the act of postponing what can and should be done today until tomorrow—and often, tomorrow never comes. Understanding the Root Causes To tackle procrastination, we must understand its root causes. Why do we procrastinate? What drives this habit of delay? Anxiety and Fear of Failure : Imagine preparing for an important exam. You might feel anxious about whether your efforts will yield the desired results. This fear of falling short ca...

Bold: The Word for 2025

Image
As I start this new year of 2025, there's just one word that's ringing in my mind and that's bold. Haha did you just see how well I did a bold :D Yesterday, I was at a new year event and somehow when I was looking at people there, I did not find any courage to make new friends or for that matter even talk to people from a different race. I am not disappointed or disgusted with that, but when I came back home, I thought only one thing, it's all about taking the opportunity at hand. Sometimes we become so consumed by our own thoughts, how people judge us, etc. we fail to take the opportunity at hand and convert it into massive success. Yesterday, I have a friend who stays somewhat close to my house and he was talking rubbish and being was trying to justify how cool he is by saying what things are morally correct. It honestly did rattle me, but one thing I understood during that point, is the best revenge is massive success. I thought let's not talk right now, let'...

An Active Mind Is a Healthy Mind: Finding Joy in Productivity

Image
Introduction:   So there's an old saying that goes, "An idle mind is a devil's workshop".  It's December of 2024 right now and the more I live, the more I realise that an idle mind is truly a devil's workshop. I wanted to go through this wonderful topic today and make folks realise what is an idle mind and how can it transmit poison in your life. One thing I have noticed through personal experience is that I tend to think more negative and bad thoughts whenever I am idle. From the last 5 days I was watching the Boxing Day test match India vs Australia and after that I would also listen to the commentary on YouTube by some journalists who were just trying to create a drama. My mind started wandering and I almost was in a position where I stopped thinking. Because we did not have any work in the last few days in the office, I also started watching more reels and shorts on YouTube and instagram respectively. This further deteriorated the quality of my thoughts. N...
