Chasing Purpose: The Key to a Meaningful and Impactful Life

Image
PURPOSE PURPOSE PURPOSE THAT'S THE ONLY THING TO CHASE. Damn, there was something really interesting going on in my personal life. I was trying to think about what's going on, and why is it that I am personally feeling insecure about somethings. As I realised, it was about a purpose oriented life. I was a bit sad, that things are not going in my life the way I want it to be. But that's the interesting challenge right. Not going according to what we want. So let's go back to the topic of what is the purpose, why do we need a purpose and how do we chase a purpose in it's truest form. What is a purpose, what's the true meaning of purpose? It's the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists is how google defines purpose. Now, purpose needs to be something greater than yourself. The idea of purpose in my head are 2 things: One is the why of what we do and the second part is the impact. Take a look at Microsoft's purpose: ...

The power of acceptance

Image
The power of acceptance. I was listening to something where the speaker said, "Jisse pa liya ussi ko muqaddar samajh liya aur jise kho diya usse mein bhulata chala gaya. " Now, how beautiful is this line where the speaker gives us the importance of acceptance. What that line meant is that whatever you have gotten in life, you believe that's the destiny and whatever you don't get, that's something that you keep forgetting and moving forward. That's accepting the reality as it is. What do we truly mean by acceptance? Acceptance in a way means accepting the bad parts. It's easy to accept the good parts, but acceptance means accepting the way that you look, even if you are skinny, fat, etc. I am not saying that don't work hard towards looking better, but accepting the way that you look is also equally important in life. Accept that part of you which is not so perfect. Accept your imperfections, accept your faults, accept your short comings. That's self...

There's light at the end of the tunnel

I have always loved the idea that every story, whether in books, movies, or real life, is a journey—one filled with moments of difficulty, sadness, hardships, and battles that must be fought. But what truly makes a story special is not just the struggles it portrays, but the way it turns them into something meaningful, something that inspires. Think about your favorite films—the ones that leave a lasting impact. No matter how dark the night, no matter how lost the hero feels, in the end, things fall into place. The obstacles that seemed insurmountable become lessons. The heartbreaks become stepping stones. The failures become the very reason for success. And when the movie ends on a hopeful note, the audience walks out of the theater with a renewed belief in life, in second chances, and in the idea that no matter how tough things get, there’s always hope. That’s exactly what I want to contribute through this blog. A sense of belief that life, like the best Hindi films, has its fair sha...

Random

There are not many times when I read a book that deeply fascinates me and aligns with the philosophy of life that I hold. However,  The Happiness Advantage  by Shawn Achor was an exception. I found this book particularly insightful and helpful in reinforcing my understanding of happiness and its role in our lives. One of the most compelling takeaways for me was the idea that happiness is not a zero-sum game. Often, people mistakenly believe that if one person is happy, it somehow diminishes their own happiness. However, Achor emphasizes that happiness is an additive process—when someone else is happy, it does not mean that you should feel unhappy. Instead, you can contribute to that happiness by celebrating and sharing in their joy. As I read the first chapter, where the author defines happiness and provides actionable strategies to increase it, I found myself reflecting on the various ways we can consciously cultivate happiness in our daily lives. Below are some of the key ac...

Reverse Engineering

Image
Strategy is an important part of life. We should be thinking long term visions are important. I was talking to my manager today and we spoke about how we want our goals to be going. Are we doing the things that are needed now to move towards our goal in the future. The way he explained me somethings is that when you have defined your vision and a goal, you naturally can find that somethings you are good with and somethings that don't come naturally to you where you need to work on. For example, you are not born with driving skills, so you need to learn driving separately. So, today's blog is going to be about encouraging you that we need to have a vision. A strategic vision and we want to reverse engineer that. I remember when I was studying, I had a goal that I want to be an expert in algorithms.  Now, because of this type of goal, I decided to have a process where I would solve at least 2 problems each day to improve my algorithm skills. Moreover, what I would do is do one ...

Saw Chhava yesterday and here's what we learn

Image
I was wondering what can I write today. I don't have much of new topics to write about but how about courage again. How about the Maratha empire and the learnings of Maratha empire. I don't have enough knowledge from Maratha Empire so will solely rely on quotes and other blogs. But I hope I bring something of value towards the end. So yesterday the story was more about Sambhaji Maharaj. The person who succeeded Shivaji in the Maratha empire. The movie had a huge showdown at the end where they showed how cruel Mughals were and how Mughals removed the tongue, the eyes and tortured Sambhaji Maharaj to death. The movie also showed how courageous Sambhaji Maharaj was and how he never bowed down to the Mughals. The way he showed courage till the end was admirable. The movie also captured glimpses of how Marathas believed in Godess Bhavani and Jagadambha. The interesting thing was that Aurangzeb the ruler of Mughals believed a lot in Islam. So if you look at the history of the world, ...

The Magic of Growth: Stepping Beyond Your Comfort Zone

Image
Comfort zone kills growth. Although this is a very simple statement, it's very important to try out different things than what you are used to. The more the comfort, the more the danger. We all have been in situations where we are not fully sure if we know something or not. However, putting your hand up and doing that very task is an act of increasing your comfort zone. Going for an ice bath is an act of increasing your comfort zone. Taking cold showers is increasing comfort zone. Whenever you do something that's difficult that's a way to increase your comfort zone. Going for a solo trip is increasing your comfort zone. What's comfort zone? The way I think about comfort zone is where we don't feel too uncomfortable :D Haha kidding, anything we are habitual doing is comfort zone. For example, if going out for dinner alone is habitual for you, that's your comfort zone. However, if going out for dinner alone is not normalized for you, then that's not your comfo...

Being Non-Needy

Being needy is the biggest turnoff ever. This feels especially true in conversations on chatting apps like WhatsApp or Instagram. I struggle to converse with people because I either need clarity or a purpose for the conversation. I feel lost, as if I have never acted on what truly matters. The world treats needy people harshly, but it becomes beautiful when you embrace non-neediness. Confidence and independence hold power, not just in love but also in the workplace. In fact, the problem is, the more we need something, the more elusive it becomes. It's like trying to catch a butterfly by chasing it; it just flies away. But when you sit still, confident in your presence, it comes and sits at your shoulder.  Neediness at its core comes from a scarcity mindset, feeling like we lack something and trying to fill in the void by external validation.  From my perspective, the shift from neediness to non-neediness is one of the most powerful personal transformations a person can make. I...

The Power of Bias for Action: Turning Ideas into Results

Bias for action is a powerful concept that emphasizes the importance of acting swiftly, especially in crucial moments. It's not just about having ideas, but about turning them into reality through decisive action. When I was at Amazon, I didn't fully grasp their philosophy of bias for action at first. Over time, I realized it means that when in doubt, you should lean into action rather than hesitation. Instead of waiting for the perfect time or more information, you move forward with what you have, trusting that continuous action, even if imperfect, is better than stagnation. The more we act, the better we become at navigating uncertainty and achieving our goals. So, what exactly is bias for action, why is it essential, and how can we practically apply it in our lives? In my view, bias for action is all about taking action instead of overthinking. For example, imagine wanting to swim in a pool, but it feels too cold, so you hesitate and hold back. But once you dive in without o...

Uncomfortable Feelings: Embracing Yourself Beyond Judgment

Image
I am just going to write something for the next 30 minutes. I am still not sure on what will I be writing but yesterday when I was on a video call, I was getting very uncomfortable feelings and felt like I need to work on my video call skills. Although it's important but that's not the topic. But the topic is uncomfortable feelings. Why we should know what makes us feel uncomfortable and why we should work on making that uncomfortable feeling comfortable. So yeah, that's what we are going to talk about. Uncomfortable feelings.  Just to start with an example out here, I was on a video call with my team where we were introducing each other and when we were introducing each other there was a natural thought in our head about each and everyone. We were looking for validation externally most of us in the video call. We were trying to look cool and sound great. However, at the end of the video call, I thought this expectation about us did put a lot of pressure on us. The only way...
